POWER DRESSING/How Are You Dressed?

Updated: Jun 1

We dress to portray an image that communicates who we are. But how many know that our spirit is known by how it is dressed? And that it does not matter what our mouths confess, if our spirit is dressed contrary to what we say, our ability to convey the right message will be thwarted.

As people of light, therefore, we must endeavour to clothe ourselves in Christ Jesus, not in darkness. For once upon a time we were in darkness, but Jesus, by His blood, redeemed us and clothed us in His righteousness as children of light.

#How is your Dressing?

There's the dressing that is associated with food such as sauces. There's also the dressing that we apply to cuts and bruises to cover and protect from infection.

As men and women, the way we dress is an expression of who we are; our personality, status or profession. Dressing also shows our state of mind, our mental health and wellbeing. Supernatural dressing which comes with heavenly power and authority, will protect and keep us safe from enemy's attack.

#Who do People say I Am?

In Matthew 16:13-20, Jesus asked His disciples the above question to establish what they and people around them thought of Him. They knew Him as the Son of Man. But He asked to find out if they knew Him as the Son of God, the Messiah. His desire was to know if any was able to discern His Divine nature.

In the Book of Exodus chapter 28, God instructed Moses on the design of the priestly garments, and gave knowledge and wisdom on how it was to be tailored.

Later in Isaiah 61:10a, NLT, the prophet exclaimed, "I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For He has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness." [A spiritual garment that is designed and made by God].

I once explained to a Jewish friend who blew the shofar or trumpet during one of the Jewish festivals, of being handed a trumpet spiritually by the LORD. And in another occasion being dressed in a garment with my head turbaned [Recorded in my book, A Chosen Witness, God's call]. Although it was a supernatural preparation for the work I was called to do, it carried God's power and authority both in the physical as well as the spiritual realm. For as the Bible says, we are dressed in Christ's Righteousness as God's children.

In the Last Day when Jesus returns, He will dress us as His bride, prepared for the wedding of the Lamb--Revelation 19:8.

Also, in a world where we face a fierce Enemy daily, we are involved in spiritual warfare. Consequently, we are instructed to put on the belt of truth and the body armour of God's righteousness so as to stand against Satan's opposition --Ephesians 6:14.

Putting on the right clothing is necessary to protect us from the fiery arrows of the enemy, without which we will be overwhelmed.

#Holiness in Christ Jesus

Our greatest benefit as God's children, is in receiving the righteousness that is ours in Jesus, when He imparts His life into us when born again. What it means is that we are clothed in Christ who is our Chief High Priest. As our Chief High Priest, we are hidden in the special Garment, His body.

Therefore, understanding God's word and His command is of great importance if we are to enjoy the benefit that is available to His children. The Holy Spirit helps in the knowledge and teaching.

When we receive salvation, to keep our garments from becoming soiled, we must live daily to honour our Saviour, by being jealous for His reputation. One who is in love does everything to please the lover. Reason we cannot walk hand-in-hand with the world and expect our garments to remain clean, as the power diminishes when soiled, requiring cleaning or change. Spending time in the presence of the LORD daily, cleans and sharpens.

After we are saved, it is our responsibility to ensure that we don't loose what we have received, and that we understand the importance of living in holiness by faith. For without faith, it is impossible to please God.

Faith will keep us even at those times when God's voice is silent, because we will be reminded of His faithfulness, and that silence does not mean He has left us, but is part of training into maturity.
