How much do we value life?
What is best practice if we are to promote good mental wellbeing and a strong family unit?
Study has shown an increase in the number of young people seeking God.
If we were to carry out a study, we would also find that the number of young people self-harming or harming others is on the decline.
The reason is that when people get to know that their lives have purpose and meaning, their desire changes from pursuing a destructive path, to living for the fulfilment of a divine purpose.
I'll never forget a lady who said she'd rather leave her grandchildren to choose for themselves if to follow God or not. We had been discussing the cultural differences where parents and grandparents support children in making decisions about God. The Scripture in Deuteronomy 11:19 gave the instruction to parents to teach their children and children's children.
Many parents fail to instruct their children in the way of God, and as a result, many young people seek acceptance in the wrong places. But God is visiting many and drawing them to Himself.
#Early Start
I must have been about three when I became aware of the family meeting early for morning devotion.
When children are taught early, they learn what it means to be made in God's image, and learn the difference between good and evil, and are able to boldly pursue godliness. Even if they make mistakes later in life the seed that was planted never dies--Proverbs 22:6.
In Isaiah 65:1, God says, "I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help. I was ready to be found, but no one was looking for Me. I said, "Here I am!"
How will they know to call when no one taught them, or showed that God wants to be found?
When faith, and the love of God is introduced early, they learn in time of trouble to call on Him.
It was my grandfather's faith that made me stand firm at a time Satan came to deceive me.
I knew God was real and would answer. I persevered and resisted the manipulation.
Isaiah 65:24, says, "I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers."
#Teach and Instruct
Without teaching, children will lack the truth that keeps them grounded in the face of difficulties and challenges.
Therefore, don't live with your family as a Christian and feel it's acceptable to go into a corner and pray while your family is left out.
Give yourselves time together, to praise and worship with Scripture reading, or a devotional and prayer.
It's a much needed family time in these last days. Children are looking for more than just physical things.
Help them develop spiritual fruitfulness.
Ask yourself, what can we give up to create time as a family?
You'll build strength and confidence in the LORD as you give time to Him.
